Self-portrait post 1 

For this assignment, we are having to draw a self-portrait with a mechanical pencil. Just like what we did in 8th grade, we have to do the same but with a pencil. I have decided to take on the challenge I've decided to do a second drawing, on different paper. A charcoal drawing of my self-portrait. 

I'm feeling like I'm going to get very frustrated but it'll be worth it in the end after I'm done with both of my drawings. It's going to be a lot of fun and very time consuming but I'm not going to give up.

For the charcoal drawing we had to use charcoal, no not just black, we had a variety of shades and values of it. From white to black, we had to draw a still life drawing with charcoal and get as much value as we could with it with what charcoal we had. I used my blending cloth a lot to get most of my value with all the objects. I had a white charcoal pencil that I used to get certain objects to have a certain shade or light spots like on the paint holder and the ball. I used the white pencil to put details in, on for instance the skate.

I happened to like this assignment and drawing because it was fun to play wth charcoal and see how you can actually use it, blend it, etc. I like using charcoal better than pencils because you can get much better values and highlights with it. It took awhile but it was worth it in my opinion.

                Drawing forms is when you draw an object, it looks 2d, right? Well, when we did this we had to draw 4 shapes and make them 3d. So when I say this if someone just drew a circle it'd just look like a circle. But when you put value into it and do it right it makes it appear like it's in 3d. With shadows it makes the shapes look even more 3d.


                I liked this assignment with value because this is the part of drawing I struggle with, it helps me learn how to actually make things look 3d instead of a picture that someone sucks as drawing. This will help me out with that and with just about anything I draw.

For this project we had to make value scales with different type of shading and values. We had to make it from lightest and darkest. We used stippling which is a dotting technique, Pressure, using a 2B pencil you had to start to push down more as you went from the lightest to darkest. Layering is a little different, this technique is usually used with a mechanical pencil and you go over it once very lightly, to make it darker you go over it again with the same amount of pressure.Cross hatching is the valuing we used in out 3 point perspective drawing, you use little sets of tiny lines and as you get darker, the darker and smaller they get, the lighter, the bigger and lighter they get. Graded value is when you use more than one pencil such as: HB, 2B, 4B, 6B, and a layout pencil, to get different shades of color. The final one is called Transition. For this one I used a 2B and you had to pick a certain value type and you had to do the same thing as the others but you couldn't have any obvious signs of color changes. 

I kinda liked this activity because it was something new for me and I didn't really know anything about value. This will help me in the future with just about anything I draw. I actually think this is one of the most important things to learn if you wanna be a artist in this sort. 

3 point perspective drawing

The 3 point perspective drawing is kinda like the 1 and 2 point perspective drawing, but all the lines you drawing go a vanishing point. for this drawing, we had to draw a funky building and put things in there like the things we put into the 1 and 2 point drawings but at a more advanced reasoning because all the lines go to a vanishing point. Like for instance, I put 2 kinds of windows, a balcony, and door. All either going into the building or going out. We also had to put an unusual object into the drawing, make it look likes the object suppose to be there but it really doesn't belong there. I put a lolly pop and a cup of coffee into the drawing. We had to use this type of shading to put things into a better perspective. 

I actually liked this drawing because it's funky, unique, out of the ordinary. You probably wouldn't see this kind of art just out on the street. I learned how to shade with lines and that even though all the lines go to a vanishing point you've still got some freedom with it and make it as funky as you can and would like. I could be as funky or as real with it as I wanted and it's still ok. 

One and Two point perspective drawings

These two drawings are similar but not the same, one is a One point perspective drawing and the other is a Two point perspective drawing. This is determined by how many vanishing points that they have. We were only allowed to have 3 types of lines while drawing these: orthogonal,  horizontal, and vertical. In the one point drawing, we had to have one building above the horizon line and one below to show how to drawing the roofs. On the two-point drawing, we had to have 8 buildings, a cloud emerging from behind a building, an unusual object, a tree, two of the buildings had to have brick walls, the others had to have texture, other little details and such.

I actually liked the two-point drawing better than the one-point because it was more exciting and made me think about how to do it right and it was a little bit more adventurous of a feeling for me and it let me use my skills to get it done.

For this drawing, we had to draw this cart that had a bunch of random objects. We only had to put 2/3 of the objects on the cart if we couldn't fit all of the objects on the paper. Also, no shading, just lines.

I actually enjoyed this drawing, it came naturally to me. I didn't have any troubles with it. I actually really really liked it. I'm just not good at drawing people with depth. I wish I could shade it ahhhh.

For this drawing, we had to draw our mannequin here with conture drawing, no shading. Just lines. 

I liked this drawing but I just had a lot of trouble with drawing Mr. Mannequin here. But this is why I'm here in drawing class, to learn how to draw such objects.

Conture drawings are a kind of drawing that you on draw lines. no shading. There are a few different kind of conture drawings and I have added a few different ones to show this.

All these contures are unique in there own way. I don't prefer conture drawing because  like to shade in my drawings. Some can be more dificult than others but once you get use to it, it can be fun.

For this drawing, the purpose of this type of drawing is to capture the motion of the drawing. To help feel the movement the person in the drawing. Not ment to draw all the details or anything as you can see. Just to show the movement, not allowed to put much details in them because we where timed. 

 felt that this type of drawing is a good way to learn how to draw movement into your drawings that you draw at home.

For the first day of drawing class we had to draw the person sitting in front of you. No shading or anything like that, just lines. 

I didn't think it looked the best because we were not able to do any shading or to deep of details. it was a something new for me and a good way to start off a drawing class like this one.
